Two Decades, A Farewell, and a Free Website

Spread the love

By Tom Konrad Ph.D., CFA

I started writing about clean energy investing in 2005 because I think I’m smart and like to demonstrate it for an audience. I don’t know how many people I impressed, but I felt like enough were that I got my emotional fix out of it for a couple decades.

I also made some not-so-smart mistakes (Ram Power, American Superconductor,… this list could go on for a while.)  Those were learning opportunities and I had you readers to keep me accountable.  The 906 articles I wrote over two decades taught me at least as much as I taught anyone else.

In 2022 I joined Investment Research Partners to manage a hedge fund, and SEC compliance rules make it a serious pain to write publicly about stocks I might be buying for clients. I’ve found other outlets for that emotional fix.  No one has left a comment on my quarterly letter to clients (except when I have occasionally posted an edited version to Patreon), but I feel I’m doing good work with the personal clean energy guidance I give when I coach people through New Yorkers For Clean Power (you can sign up for free a session, but note that I don’t give stock picks, just home and vehicle advice).

AltEnergyStocks itself needs more tending than I can give it. My former compatriot in writing, Charles Morand, has also moved on to a job in investing and does not have the time.  I still see him on Strava.

A Thank You and Looking Forward

by Brian Gomes

I took over AltEnergyStocks.com in 2006 with a belief in both the importance of the clean energy transition and the role thoughtful investing could play in helping move it forward.

Over the last 20 years, the site provided thoughtful investment ideas and long-term thinking around alternative energy, along with education and discussion on the sector. I’m incredibly grateful to the many writers who contributed their time, expertise, and perspectives over the years, especially Tom Konrad, Charles Morand, and all of the contributors who helped shape AltEnergyStocks along the way. I hope writing for the site was rewarding for them personally and professionally, just as their work informed and benefited many readers over the years.

Thank you as well to everyone who read the site and supported it over the years.

As we prepare to close this chapter, I would still love to see AltEnergyStocks continue under someone who shares the spirit and purpose the site was founded on. The site, domain, and archive are being offered free of charge to an individual or organization seriously interested in carrying the project forward. If interested, please reach out to me at brianaltenergy@gmail.com.

Otherwise, AltEnergyStocks.com will officially shut down on June 2, 2026.

Thank you for being part of the journey.

Brian – May 2006
