ZAP (ZAPZ) announced today that dealer purchase orders for its Smart Car high-gas-mileage vehicles has increased to more than $200 million as American demand for the unique microcar has spread. ENER1 INC (ENEI) announced that it had received an award of $550,000 from the Florida Hydrogen Initiative to develop a renewable energy source that will power a rest area on an interstate highway. Ultralife Batteries, Inc. Awarded $7.4 Million Battery Contract by U.S. Defense Department

Ultralife Batteries Inc (ULBI) has been awarded a new production contract for its BA-5390/U battery valued at approximately $7.4 million, by the U.S. Defense Department. This contract is independent of the Next Gen II, Phase IV five-year battery contract for the BA-5390 and four other rectangular military batteries, which the company was awarded in December 2004. Deliveries under this $7.4 million contract are required to be completed by May 14.

Ormat Breaks Ground on New Geothermal Power Plant

Ormat Technologies (ORA) broke ground today on the first geothermal electric generating plant to be built at Steamboat, Nevada since 1991. Known as the Galena Geothermal Project, when completed the plant will be added to the existing Steamboat geothermal plants and bring the total output from this geothermal complex to 44 megawatts of electricity through a process that extracts and re-injects the hot geothermal waters from the ground. One megawatt of electricity can supply energy up to approximately 1,000 typical homes in the area.

Distributed Energy Systems’ Operating Units to Engineer and Install Hydrogen Fueling Station in Vermont

Distributed Energy Systems Corp (DESC) announced today that its wholly owned subsidiaries, Northern Power Systems and Proton Energy Systems, will build an advanced hydrogen fueling station through a partnership with EVermont, a non-profit organization that supports cleaner and more energy-sustainable vehicles. The grid-connected system will utilize locally generated renewable energy. This was made possible by a nearly $1 million Department of Energy (DOE) grant secured by Congressman Bernie Sanders (I-VT). FuelCell Energy to Provide Direct FuelCell Power Plant for Pepperidge Farm Bakery in Connecticut

Fuelcell Energy Inc (FCEL) announced today that they are providing a 250-kilowatt Direct FuelCell® (DFC®) power plant for the Pepperidge Farm bakery facility in Bloomfield, Conn. Opened in 2003, the facility is the newest of Pepperidge Farm's eight bakeries in the U.S. Pepperidge Farm is a unit of the Campbell Soup Company. Protonex and Millennium Cell Deliver ‘Industry First’ to U.S. Air Force

Millennium Cell Inc (MCEL) announced that they have delivered to the U.S. Air Force the industry's first fully-integrated 30 Watt portable fuel cell power system fueled by chemical hydride cartridges. This portable power system, (referred to as P1), is the first deliverable under a previously announced U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory, Dual Use Science and Technology (DUST) contract awarded to Protonex.
